A message from the 2017 Captain of Mullion Golf Club
I wish to sincerely thank everyone involved in making my Captain’s day on the glorious 12th of August 2017 so very very memorable.
The weather Gods looked kindly on us and Gordon and the boys had the course playing beautifully. I am sure all the competitors enjoyed the format for the day and well done Mark Twynham for creating the ideas to ensure everyone had a lot of interest all through the event. Mark’s Halfway House proved very popular and with the great weather how nice was that cracking smell of onions and sausages drifting over the course – even second helpings for some!
The evening entertainment was amazing – the choir doing the Ugly Bug Ball song, Mr Malcolm Scott in a fabulous hand made outfit beating Betty Stoggs style by a mile, and Mr President Ben Willey revealing my inner secrets (anyone want to buy a Merc?) – it took me ages to get Scotty’s lippy off before falling into bed!!.
Everyone enjoyed dinner and Mike Pamphilon said “ this is great – I have eaten so much and still have so much left to enjoy – it’s brilliant”.
I cannot thank Mark and Mandy enough for all their hard work and such nice touches in the clubhouse – the black and white serviettes, black and white ties for the guys and the brilliant “Why Aye Man” special cider. In my words I referred to the loyal staff we have and their efforts on Saturday evening were immense to managing 120 diners – so well done all – we have a great in house team.
Thank you Chris and Katie for the prize table and pro shop support in getting the 112 competitors away. Yvonne Barlow was a treasure out there all day taking photos and we hope we fed her well – the clubhouse flowers were lovely – thanks Yvonne.
I must thank all the members who called or messaged me to have a great day and the many cards I had wishing me well.
In particular many thanks Mr Peter Moyle – he was unable to come to the dinner and presented me with a bottle of really good whisky and a lovely card saying he would have liked to have been with us and wanted me to have something for my day – he got Sharon to bring it over for me and I cannot thank them enough.
So one of the big days of my Captaincy year is over but will never be over in my memory – I can never thank you all enough for your support.
As I said in my loyal toast “To Mullion Golf Club 122 years and counting”
